Alcon develops, manufactures and markets surgical equipment and devices, pharmaceutical eye drops and consumer vision care products to treat eye diseases and disorders. The heart of Alcon’s surgical equipment business is the Irvine Technology Center (ITC) which is responsible for manufacturing, distributing and servicing all of Alcon’s surgical equipment. The employees of the ITC constitute a powerful base of expertise in such diverse technologies as ultrasound,
optics, electromechanics, electronics, diagnostics and lasers. Since more than 500 products and their various configurations are offered to Alcon customers, the catalog master file of products manufactured and supported by ITC consists of more than 29,000 individual parts and assemblies. Since 1989, more than 45,000 ophthalmic systems have been manufactured at the Irvine facility and are in use in over 180 countries around the world.
